(From IslandKarma.com) Buy a New Auto on the Big Island or on Mainland? We didn't have any car problems because we sold both our cars. We used an auto-broker to find us the best price on a new SUV. We told her we didn't mind paying a couple of hundred bucks extra to favor a Big Island dealer. She checked a mainland purchase with factory delivery to the BI, Honolulu purchase with $150 shipping to the BI and local BI purchase. We ended up getting our new SUV from the BI Ford dealer (Orchid Isle Auto), for less than the purchase price in California! Never mind the shipping charges. When we arrived from the mainland, in August, the Dealer drove the car over from Hilo and picked us up at the airport with the papers to sign. Fantastic service and a super nice guy. The only Auto Broker I know is in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've bought 4 cars over the last 10 years from Linda Yazell. She charges $500, paid by the dealer. She's always gotten me an excellent price on a car (below invoice). As a "wholesale buyer" in the car business, she deals with the commercial sales department of large dealerships. I give her the specs of what I want, she finds it and negotiates the best price (usually plays 2-3 dealer agents off against each other) and then I go pickup the car. When I decided to move to the Big Island, she checked on cars in California, Honolulu and on the Big Island and found me the best buy from a Hilo dealer. Hi, Linda, I Love the car! I put its storage capacity to the test today running Christmas errands, filling the trunk, back seat, and front seat! It held more than I would have imagined. We got home safe and sound (and figured out several things about the car on the way that we hadn't known before) in spite of intermittent rain. Things have changed a bit in 15 years. Hi Linda, I bought the 1998 Civic! It’s a beautiful piece of work! It’s almost “practically perfect in every way” (Mary Poppins). It drives great, it looks great, and it’s in my garage as I write, keeping it nice and safe from the harming rays of the sun. Turns out my daughter is coming down from school on Saturday with friends for a get together in San Francisco so it works out that she will pick it up then. This particular Honda is a masterpiece and I’m way satisfied. Thank you for all your gumshoe detective work. Good find. Maggie is also very pleased with the GMC Envoy you found, so we’ve been fortunate to have been treated to your vehicle-find services twice within the last five days and both of us are very pleased. For my daughter, the Honda is the perfect college car (again). She just needs to stop wrecking college cars and graduate. Thank you, P.S.
